Introduction
Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that primarily affects older adults, leading to cognitive decline, memory loss, and changes in behavior. While there is currently no cure for Alzheimer’s disease, there is growing interest in non-pharmacological interventions that can improve the quality of life for individuals living with the disease. One such intervention is music therapy, which has shown promising results in improving emotional well-being, reducing anxiety and depression, and enhancing communication in individuals with Alzheimer’s disease.
This thesis aims to examine the impact of music therapy on the emotional well-being of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease. By exploring the potential benefits of music therapy in this population, we hope to contribute to the growing body of evidence supporting the use of non-pharmacological interventions in the management of Alzheimer’s disease.

Thesis Overview
Alzheimer’s disease is a devastating condition that affects millions of individuals worldwide. As the population continues to age, the prevalence of Alzheimer’s disease is expected to rise, making it a significant public health concern. While pharmacological treatments exist to manage some symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease, they are not always effective and can have adverse side effects. As a result, there is a growing interest in non-pharmacological interventions that can improve the quality of life for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease.
Music therapy has emerged as a promising non-pharmacological intervention for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease. Music has the ability to evoke emotions, memories, and create connections that can be especially meaningful for those living with Alzheimer’s disease. Music therapy interventions can range from listening to music to engaging in musical activities such as singing, playing instruments, and movement to music. These interventions have been shown to improve emotional well-being, reduce anxiety and depression, enhance communication, and promote social interactions in individuals with Alzheimer’s disease.
This thesis aims to examine the impact of music therapy on the emotional well-being of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease. By conducting a systematic review of the literature and implementing a research study, we hope to further explore the potential benefits of music therapy in this population. Through this research, we aim to contribute to the growing body of evidence supporting the use of non-pharmacological interventions in the management of Alzheimer’s disease and provide insights for clinical practice and future research directions.
