Introduction:
Functional neurological disorders (FND) are a group of neurological conditions in which patients present with significant neurological symptoms that are not explained by an underlying organic cause. The pathophysiology of FND is not well understood, but growing evidence suggests that neuroinflammation may play a key role in the development and progression of these disorders.
Neuroinflammation is the body’s immune response in the central nervous system, characterized by the activation of microglia and the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines. In recent years, research has shown that neuroinflammation is involved in a wide range of neurological conditions, including neurodegenerative diseases, psychiatric disorders, and chronic pain syndromes. However, the role of neuroinflammation in FND remains largely unexplored.
This thesis aims to investigate the potential role of neuroinflammation in the pathophysiology of FND. By elucidating the underlying mechanisms of neuroinflammation in FND, this research may provide new insights into the diagnosis and treatment of these disorders.

Thesis Overview:
Neuroinflammation, the body’s immune response in the central nervous system, is gaining recognition as a potential contributor to the development and progression of functional neurological disorders (FND). In this thesis, we aim to investigate the role of neuroinflammation in FND, with a focus on elucidating the underlying mechanisms and exploring potential diagnostic and therapeutic implications.
The literature review will provide an overview of FND and neuroinflammation in neurological disorders, highlighting the current understanding of neuroinflammation in FND and potential diagnostic biomarkers and treatment approaches targeting neuroinflammation. The research methodology will outline the design, participants, data collection methods, and analysis techniques used in this study, along with ethical considerations and future research directions.
The discussion of findings will present neuroinflammatory markers in FND patients, the relationship between neuroinflammation and symptom severity, potential mechanisms of neuroinflammation in FND, and implications for diagnosis and treatment. The conclusion will summarize the findings, discuss implications for clinical practice and future research directions, and provide a comprehensive overview of the contributions of this thesis to the field of neuroinflammation and FND research.
