Introduction:
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that affects the motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. The disease leads to muscle weakness, paralysis, and eventually death, usually within 3-5 years of diagnosis. There is currently no cure for ALS, and the available treatments only provide limited symptomatic relief.
Pharmacological strategies for neuroprotection in ALS have been the focus of intense research over the past few decades. These strategies aim to slow down the progression of the disease, protect the remaining motor neurons, and ultimately improve the quality of life for patients living with ALS.
