Introduction
Social anxiety in children is a common and debilitating mental health issue that can have long-lasting effects on a child’s social and emotional development. Traditional forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, have been shown to be effective in treating social anxiety in children. However, there is a growing body of research that suggests that animal-assisted therapy (AAT) may be a promising alternative or complementary treatment approach. AAT involves animals as part of a therapeutic process to help individuals improve their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive functioning.
This thesis aims to examine the effectiveness of animal-assisted therapy in reducing symptoms of social anxiety in children. By conducting a comprehensive literature review, as well as primary research in the form of case studies and surveys, this study seeks to provide a better understanding of how AAT can be used as a therapeutic tool for children with social anxiety.
